I love it when folks come and tell us some stories of their past... and here is a great one... the photo above will make sense as you read the end of the story....

We had a gentleman, who came in to share this story from his family ... Do you know anyone who live in Wyandale, New York in the 1960s and 70s?  Charlie D. was a bachelor farmer with dairy cows and sheep.  He always had visitors, both family and friends. and There were two cottages that were owned by families from Buffalo and Clarence that had cottages that border his farm.  When these families came down during the summer, there would be a lot of city kids that spent their time in Wyandale, and of course there were always local kids in the area for them to play with.  Nephews and nieces, along with all those city kids loved to hang around this farm  Charlie loved the company and would tell stories to them.  They would sit on bales of hay and listen to his every word, while he milked his cows and did farm chores.  Some of the ones they loved was the story he would tell them of UFOs and Martians (extraterrestrials).
One day while Charlie was on his tractor doing his field work, up on a hill in the back of his farm, (about 1959), a silver saucer type object flew across his field, very low to the ground, going super fast.  It surprised him, but he believed that UFOs did exist.
When he got back to the barn, he noticed something left marks on his toolshed, and the door was smashed into pieces.
Did the UFO crash?  As it past over his tool shed did it somehow blow his door off?  We can only speculate.
Another story that Charlie like to tell was when he was building a new hay wagon rack.  He needed some bolts and drove into Springville, parking on Main Street to go into the Smith's Hardware Store. When he got out of his truck , he noticed what looked like some kind of spacecraft.  No one else on the street seemed to noticed or maybe they just could not see it.  He continued to walk toward the Hardware store where he was blocked on the sidewalk, by three Martians, they wore tight fitting dark clothing, with no zipper or buttons.  They had large foreheads, big eyes, small noses and mouth.  They all looked the same.  One held up a small shinny black object to Charlie face.  He felt ill, couldn't remember why he came into town, returned to his truck and drove home, a little shaken up.
The last story he shared, how I wish I could have known Charlie D and heard him tell it was...
One time, one of the milk cows did not come to the barn for the morning milking.  Charlie went out and walked the pastured looking for her.  While walking between some wild apple trees he spotted a UFO and two Martians who were bathing in the creek.  Now when the Martians spotted Charlie, they dashed out of the creek, grabbed their clothes from the tree branches where they were hanging and ran to the space craft, taking off at a great speed.  After Charlie came to his senses, he noticed that the female Martian had left her bra hanging on a branch.  He took it home and hung it on a hook in his barn to show the kids when he would tell his story to them.  He would ask the kids if they wanted to see Martian's bra, which of course they all did, and then would show them a wide riveted strap with tow metal cups.  It was really something to see.  The speaker sharing this story with me said it wasn't until years later he found out that the Martians bra was really .... a bull halter!
Charlie loved telling all these stories to the children and adults alike that would sit a spell and listen to him.  Wyandale will never be the same, as he passed away in 1991 at the age of 73.
Sure seems like each family I talk to and mine as well has some story that has space aliens in it... Do you have such a story in your family?  I would love to hear it!

In the Archives I found....

. Left to Right; Ed Russel, Alice Stewart, Ira Vail, D. Frances, Ellena Wall, Garrett Smith, Frances Rothfuss & Josie Vail.

I love finding old photos.. and then with names on them as well, Wowzer. These were teacher graduates from 1898 here in Concord.... Griffith Institute at that time was a teachers school, as well as a regular school. What I am finding is that they would learn what was needed to be a teacher, then they would teach a semester. I guess working with kids has always been needed for experience for those wanting to learn. I am going to go dig some more and see what shows up!!

Time Marches on!
